Continued from my previous blog entry….
The first period is coming to an end. Time flies because of all the fun here in Singapore. The first period started with the Introduction week, full of introduction drinks, with the ‘Bain beach party’ (introduction party sponsored by Bain) at Sentosa Beach as a highlight.
The first period’s curriculum is heavily loaded with ‘core’ courses: Finance & Valuation, Prices & Markets, Uncertainty & Data Judgment (hard skills), Business Ethics en Organisational Behaviour 1 (soft skills – really interesting). The weeks are very intense because of a combination of academics and lots of social events. Parties, group dinners, etc. are organized continuously. We try to attend all of them. By doing so we have visited a large number of Singaporese bars, restaurants and clubs (one of them hosting an open air party on the helipad of a 63 story building). I have also started exercising: I have joined the INSEAD Soccer Club.
We have also done some more traveling. In the beginning of the first period we have been to Bintan, Indonesia, with 35 INSEAD class mates. We also went to Tioman, Malaysia, to get our PADI diving license together with 30 class mates. Two weeks ago, we also went to Hong Kong with some very nice new INSEAD friends. Other highlights were the Singapore Formula 1 race (at night!) and the visit of Otto, my good friend and Bain Amsterdam colleague.
Next week there will be the final exams. Directly after, we fly to Langkawi, Malaysia, for a short holiday together with friend and Bain colleague Tim and his girlfriend. Another thing to look forward to!
All in all, a fantastic time. More news to come!
